Welcome to the Acute and Critical Care SIG Virtual Community!

Meet the Candidate!

Patricia Woods, RN, OCN

Patti has come forward to run for Coordinator-elect for the Acute &Critical Care SIG for 2008. I really want to thank her for stepping forward to increase her involvement and commitment to ONS and I thought you might like to learn a little about her.

Patti received her ADN from Florida Community College at Jacksonville in May 2000. Her first job was at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville (St. Lukes) on the Heme/Onc/BMT unit.  Looking for new challenges in oncology nursing, in 2003 she took a position at Baptist Medical Center in the adult oncology CCU. She became Assistant Nurse Manager on the night shift in 2004. Patti obtained her OCN in 2005. She is Chairperson for the Unit Council which includes the adult CCU and Med/Surg oncology. She is also Co-Chair of the campus Shared Governance Council.

Patti is a graduate of the ONS Leadership Development Institute and it looks like she is putting the tools she learned from ONS to work! Three years ago, Pat married an oncology nurse who she met at work and has 4 children, ages 12-14. That in itself takes some real leadership!! Again, I want to thank Patti for stepping forward!

To join our Acute and Critical Care SIG Discussion list, click on Subscribe to Discussion.

This will bring you to a page where you can join our list and decide if you:

  • Want to get a new mail each time somebody posts something on our list.
  • Want to receive a daily digest (only once a day) of everything posted that day.
  • Want to opt out of e-mails from the list, in this option you'll just go to the page to read any discussions.

  • You will need to fill out a Profile for ONS (if you haven't already done so). If you tell the ONS website to remember you, your password will automatically come up and you won't have to remember it if you are at your home base computer. Did you know that the Acute & Critical SIG provides a formal mentoring program for oncology nurse professionals? Joining is easy. To enroll, visit www.3creekmentoring.com/ONS to start the process. Select the mentoring program of interest as well as the following codes when creating a profile:

    Mentee group code: 532398
    Mentor group code: 361812

Mentoring relationships officially begin once a mentee contacts a prospective mentor (through the online program) and both parties agree to a mentoring arrangement. These relationships are ongoing with the majority of communication occurring by email and through the online program. However, mentors and mentees may also connect in-person or by telephone (at their own expense) as deemed appropriate and convenient for them.

Mentoring relationships can be either short or long in duration. However, participants should be willing to make a minimum commitment of two hours per month to the program. If at anytime an arrangement is not meeting the desired expectations, a mentor or mentee can be paired with another member participating in the program.

Please direct any questions to membership@ons.org.
